The Pemberton Memorial Garden is situated on Chapel Street, within 5 minute walk from the centre of Pemberton. Before it became a Memorial Garden it was a burial ground and also the site of the first Methodist ministry in Lamberhead Green.
Contact St. John The Divine direct regarding any Remembrance Services.
The Memorial Garden was officially reopened by the Mayor of Wigan, Cllr Eunice Smethurst in 2009. Cllr Smethurst recalled playing in the former garden when she was growing
up as a child.
Initially we had two volunteers Phil Lloyd and Jack Byrne as the gate keepers for the newly reopened garden. It was when Phil moved to Morecambe and Jack sadly passed away, that Martin Silcock took charge of the opening and closing. Our volunteers do their best to keep the garden tidy, as they all work full time as well as working for the community. Wigan Council mow the grass when they are in the area
The Community and St John the Divine church hold an outdoor memorial service in the Memorial Garden every year on the nearest Sunday to the 11th November. A short service with a full roll call takes place, with the last post and revelle played.
